Fireplaces offer a very special combination of utility and ambience in a home. What was once a necessity has now become a center of relaxation and entertainment, all with the generation of heat, sometimes when no other source is available.
Fireplaces come in many configurations and are fabricated from varied materials, including the conventional masonry fireplace, a more modern pre-designed masonry type assembled from precast components, and fabricated metal fireboxes which come in vented and ventless types, many of which will be mated with gas firelogs.
Most of our standard plans show a proposed fireplace location, but do not include a fireplace in the base configuration. Many of the proposed locations will require either a direct vent fireplace insert or a ventless insert due to the routing of chimneys. The location of a conventional fireplace with chimney will need to be determined per plan or located on an outside wall, which are easily accomplished.
The addition of a fireplace to custom designs requires the same choices, based primarily on firebox location. Examples of installed systems may be seen in Design Ideas.
