Our standard plans include a fiberglass front door that is paintable or stainable. The entrance door from the garage must be fire rated, so this door is metal. Other doors are either sliding or fiberglass hinged per plan. Building codes dictate minimum sizes, and you also will need minimum clearances to furnish your home.
Custom exterior doors, particularly on the front elevation, can truly enhance the appearance of any design. The variety of designs and materials used on exterior doors is extensive, and selections can materially affect your budget. Our supplier database has numerous sources for exterior doors, so don't limit your inquiry. If you select an optional door, the framing rough-in will likely need to be modified. Further, adding transom windows or sidelights will require framing changes.
Most custom designs will incorporate an upgraded front door. When selecting your door you will need to know whether you want painted or stained finish. Door designs can be supplied in various materials, and the fiberglass door will be half the price of the same design in mahogany.
Be creative, but be mindful of your budget. The simple upgrade of door hardware and a great paint color will often suitably dress up a front door and improve the entrance appearance. Examples of exterior door selections can be seen in our Design Ideas.
